The project ‘Viking’ achieved success largely due to active support of Belarusian colleagues.
This was announced in the course of the Fourth meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on cooperation between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus by the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, the Co-Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on cooperation Ihor Kalyetnik.
According to him, for two years, volume rail-freight traffic of trains ‘Zubr’ and ‘Viking’ has increased almost by nine times.
He also stressed that success of this project was appreciated by the Presidents of our countries at the meeting on June, 2013.
‘Container railway transportation by trains ‘Zubr’ and ‘Viking’ is an example of efficient cooperation, particularly, in the sphere of transportation. In 2012 ‘Viking’ train transported almost 14 thousand TEU, in 2010 – only 1600 TEU,’ said I. Kalyetnik.
According to him, recently Bulgaria has joined this project; Turkey is also interested in it.
‘This shows that the project is really prospective,’ said I. Kalyetnik.
He added that implementation of bilateral regional projects, as well as attraction of outside financing, is of great importance for Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus.
